By Gully, that was fun! 09/05/2011
![]() Gully (and boredom) inspired artwork I recently found out that Edge Studio holds a weekly contest to keep voiceover artists on their toes. They post a script from some area of v/o - commercial, audiobook, industrial, etc - and submission guidelines. Then they listen to all the submissions, provide general feedback and select a few winners (awarding prizes such as free classes and coachings!) Anyway, I decided to jump in and give it a try this past week. It was a fun little animation script, and although I have little (ok, zero.) animation experience I have logged many hours watching cartoons and reading aloud a variety of children's books (occupational hazard) ... so I decided to give it a shot. Well, as beginners luck would have it, I came in 4th place out of quite a few a few talented submissions! (even get a sweet little prize) Thought I would share my submission. Hopefully this is a good sign of more fun animation things to come! Here are the directors notes and my submission. Please excuse the ad at the beginning, it's a small price to pay for free audio hosting. We're casting the voice of Gully the Seagull, for a new Saturday morning cartoon on Discovery Kids. Gully is very interesting: Gully has a huge attitude and is always getting into trouble with other birds at the beach. The other birds would describe Gully as bossy, overly confident and as impatient as they come. But while Gully may be rude, Gully is also fun and knows how to have a good time! Add Comment Demo done! 07/17/2011
Thanks to the help of Andy Roth and the great group at Shut Up And Talk / Hyperbolic Audio, I finally have a commercial demo ready for any ears who want to listen! It has been a serendipitous year that has propelled me into the world of voice over. As a child I could be described as...ehem... talkative, and I seem to recall some joking among my family that when I grew up I should be a 'professional talker.' Sometime last year that long ago planted seed took root, as another possible professional and creative outlet. The bizarrely well timed comments of some people I trust, led me to explore it more seriously, and eventually I wound up taking a wonderful class with Roger Becker to see if my love of performing and my love of talking could be put to use in the booth. And wouldn't you know it, before I even started recording my demo, I had a request to narrate children's stories for an international publication. So off I went to B&H and now I have an at home studio where I can record the audio and email the MP3s to Australia for production! It's an encouraging start to an exciting new venture! Sporadic posting = Sporadic noteworthy news. But that’s not to say I haven’t been busy! Lovin' babies and lovin' marine animals Making friends and climbing waterfalls Attempting to take self-portraits A world wonder 06/01/2008
Well, I'm out of the boot! I also took a wonderful vacation with my mom, out to Vegas and the Grand Canyon - rediculous pictures below. If you are a Star Trek fan, this requires no explanation. If you are not a Star Trek fan, please quit judging me. Living on the edge... the tour guide convinced me it was a good idea to go beyond the tourist barrier and risk certain death... oops. I get the boot 04/22/2008
An actual boot. I spent most of the winter looking for cute boots, and never ended up getting them. Well - I now have a boot. Yup, just one…because I fractured my foot! Yikes!! It's just a stress fracture, apparently from running every day and not getting enough calcium... so let that be a lesson to all of you young ladies... don't exercise. Oh, no... I mean, take a calcium supplement. It's not just for your mothers!! Anyway, I am nearly done with the crutches and have another week or so on the boot, then I'll be good as new! Silly faces are a crowd favorite A bum foot can't keep me from some good cuddles! Not a skyscraper in sight. Ahh. Upcoming Performance! 03/28/2008
If you are free Wednesday, April 2nd at 6pm, pencil me in! I'll be performing in yet another installment of Astoria Playmaking, hosted by Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) I'm finally joining this decade! 03/19/2008
The bare bones are in place and I have finally published the beginnings of a website! Yay me! I feel so... so... 2002! I'm sure it will go through many an edit and facelift, but for now here it is! | Posts are infrequent, don't hold your breath!ArchivesSeptember 2011 |
